Abuse and Neglect of Children with Disabilities
The Abuse and Neglect of Children with Disabilities Project provides face-to-face multidisciplinary training and a series of internet archived webinars for professionals and family members about the abuse and neglect of children with disabilities. This initiative is funded by the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
- Training: provide Tipping the Scales in Their Favor: Your Role in Recognizing and Responding to Abuse and Neglect of Children with Disabilities training featuring a multidisciplinary panel; three face-to-face training sessions are offered annually.
- Archived Webinars: provide archived webinars (partnership.vcu.edu/tippingthescales) in a 3 part series featuring 1) a parent of a child with disabilities; 2) experts from the DCJS and Greater Richmond SCAN discussing what abuse looks like with children with disabilities; and 3) law enforcement officer and a CPS treatment specialist discussing the reporting process.
