Overview
The Center for Family Involvement works with families to increase their skills as advocates, mentors, and leaders so families, children, and young adults with disabilities can lead the lives they want. Through a variety of direct service, training, technical assurance, and information dissemination, parents of children and young adults with disabilities receive emotional, informational, and systems navigational support.
Major Activities
- Provide 1:1 emotional, informational and systems navigational support to families across the Commonwealth through local Family to Family Network of Virginia offices
- Provide technical assistance on increased engagement of families in planning for their child’s services
- Maintain a Cultural Broker Initiative working with culturally & linguistically diverse populations in the Commonwealth
- Produce a variety of written and on-line materials for families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as Creating Collaborative IEPs; the Care Coordination Notebook
- Maintain several websites – www.vasibs.org, www.alife4me.com
